Alfred&#8217;s father Benjamin lived in Johannesburg whilst serving in the Royal Fusiliers and married Christine in her home town of Koln, Germany in December 1920. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family moved to England and in 1939 they lived at 75 Queens Crescent, St Pancras, where Benjamin was working as a dealer in fancy jewellery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alfred enlisted in 1942 and trained as a navigator. He was on board Lancaster NG185 which departed from RAF Scampton on a night operation to Duisberg.
