Albert was born in 1919 in Prestwich to Romanian born Philip and Kate nee Lobel. Philip and Kate had eight children and Philip died in 1929 leaving Kate alone with her young family. Albert was educated at Chorlton High School, Manchester and he joined the RAF in 1939. Two of Albert’s brothers also served in the RAF. One of them, Flying Officer Jack Goldstone, was the Irish table tennis champion in 1940 and he also held the Ulster championship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albert was the pilot of Beaufighter JL878 which departed from RAF North Coates on a shipping reconnaissance mission off the Dutch coast. The aircraft was lost without trace killing Albert and his navigator Sgt. Cyril Henry William Watts 1376338. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albert is commemorated on the Belfast Hebrew Congregation Memorial Plaque in Belfast Synagogue and on a Memorial Stone on the Goldstone family grave in the Jewish Cemetery at Carnmoney. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
