On 18 Aug 1945 Liberator KH 218 took off from RAF Cocos Islands for a S.D. Operation in Central Malaya. A SOS was sent out, which a few minutes later was cancelled. Another SOS was then received followed by a message that the aircraft was ditching. It gave course, height and approximate position. An intensive A.S.R. search was instituted. A total of 16 sorties were flown during the next 4 days. The search was called off on the 22 Aug 1945.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
